Enhancement the Stability of Power System Using Optimal Location of FACTS Devices

Abstract


This paper proposes a steady-state of the Static Var Compensator (SVC) & Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) installation for enhancing the damping performance and increasing the critical clearing time (CCT) of a power system. The critical clearing time is achieved by increasing the fault time interval until the system loses its stability. Increasing the CCT can help in the reliability of the protection system and reduce the protection system rating and its cost. In order to achieve maximum enhancement of system stability by optimizing location, sizing and control modes of SVC and TCSC. Models and methodology for placing and designing shunt FACT’s devices SVC (injected reactive power Q) and series FACT’s devices TCSC (chose capactive region) are tested in a 6-bus systems. Performance factors are defined to prove validation of SVC and TCSC on different conditions. It is shown that the SVC is better than TCSC.
